Kindergarten Rhyming
Today I finished my lesson for my kindergarten rhyming activity. Here is my TIE plan for my lesson. When the students were playing around on the Google Doc. they had a blast picking their own colors and font! Every time they clicked on the color button you would hear them say, "WOW! Look at all the colors! This is cool." A lot of my students were absent the day we did this activity which is why there are only 15 words. The students also thought it was neat how everyone could be on the same screen at the same time. The only problems I did have with the Google Doc was that most of my students did not know how to spell their word so I did have to help them with that. Other than that problem they did really well and enjoyed the activity. After the they created Google Doc I then went home and turned it into a presentation so that I could up load it into voice threads. When the students were recording their sentence about their word, they seemed a little confused until it started playing back for them and you just saw their faces light up and a huge smile was put on their faces. They did a really good job of clicking the record button and saying their sentence. The only problem we really had was them trying to create some of the sentences and you will notice that in voice thread. Some of them felt a little shy and lost their sentence but then they felt comfortable when we tried it a few times. The students loved the end product and really had fun doing everything that went into the project.

Before lesson thoughts
Well I think I am going to start my lesson on Thursday. Get my students to pick their rhyming words on google docs. and then the next week I will have them use voice threads to say a sentence using their word. I am curious to see how the lesson goes with my kindergarten class and I am hoping it goes well. Guess we will see what happens next week!

T.I.E lesson plan TEKS
Here are some of the TEKS I am thinking about using for my lesson plan. My lesson will consist of using Google Docs. I have kindergarten and we have been working on rhyming words I plan to create a spread sheet of some sort and in the first rows there were be questions such as "What rhymes with hat?" My students will come to this new literacy center, since we only have 3 computers, they will pick a different font and color to use and type their word in the columns below the question they have choose. I hope this works out because my students are still very new to computers and technology in the classroom.
TEKS:
TEKs addressed:
Reading:
(2) Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonological Awareness. Students display phonological awareness. Students are expected to:
(C) orally generate rhymes in response to spoken words (e.g., "What rhymes with hat?");
Technology:
(2) Foundations. The student uses data input skills appropriate to the task. The student is expected to:
(A) use a variety of input devices such as mouse, keyboard, disk drive, modem, voice/sound recorder, scanner, digital video, CD-ROM, or touch screen.
(3) Foundations. The student complies with the laws and examines the issues regarding the use of technology in society. The student is expected to:
(A) follow acceptable use policies when using computers.
(10) Communication. The student formats digital information for appropriate and effective communication. The student is expected to:
(A) use font attributes, color, white space, and graphics to ensure that products are appropriate for the defined audience.
